Drupal Core and Contrib Sprints

On Sunday the 21st, we'll be meeting up at the Nerdery and sprinting on Drupal. They were such great hosts last year we decided to take them up on the offer again this year.

Something for everyone

Whether you're a site builder, designer, programmer, themer, technical writer, or usability specialist, even if you don't have any Drupal experience at all, this is your chance to get involved and contribute back to the Drupal community. We'll be hosting a Get Inolved with Core sprint and the illustrious Cathy Theys (YesCT) and Andrea Soper (ZenDoodles) who have done this a handful of times in the past and are also very active in Drupal's core mentoring program will be on hand to help keep things running smoothly and to make sure everyone's got something to work on.

We're also excited to have Joe Shindelar (eojthebrave) doing his take on the Community Tools Workshop from Drupalize.Me to kick things off on Sunday morning. This 3-4 hour workshop is focused on teaching people the ins and outs of interacting with the Drupal community via Drupal.org, IRC and the like and helping people get their individual development environments setup and ready to start cranking out patches for Drupal core (or contrib).

Whether you're a brand new contributor or an experienced veteran we'll do our best to help you to help make Drupal better.

Twig Sprint - Clean up Drupal's Theme Layer

Drupal 8 has a new theme engine: Twig. But the work isn't done yet. There is still a lot to do to ensure Drupal 8's theme layer is the best yet. Come to the code sprint Sunday and help Jen Lampton (jenlampton) and Scott Reeves (Cottser) convert theme functions into Twig templates, consolidate similar theme functions, and in general polish up the markup that Drupal produces and make Drupal 8's theme layer easier to use and understand.

Media Module Sprint

Join Dave Reid (davereid) and others passionate about improving media and file handling in Drupal 7 and beyond. With your help, they will be hammering out issues in the File Entity and Media modules issue queues to get the 2.x versions closer to an official release!

Mentors needed!

Already familiar with setting up a development environment or with the core contribution process? Want to help other contributors? We need lots of mentors to work with our first-time contributors. This is a great opportunity to get to know others in the community.

Where?

The Nerdery has graciously offered to host this year’s DrupalCamp sprints from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday July 21st. Sprints will begin at 10 a.m. in the Luke J. Bucklin Nerditorium Hall. Stay all day if you wish, or pop in-and-out as you please. Help yourself to the breakfast bar, pizza, coffee, Red Bull, soda cooler and other nerd perks routinely enjoyed by 300+ Nerdery Nerds and nearly a dozen tech user groups hosted by The Nerdery.

The Nerdery 9555 James Ave S., suite #245 Bloomington MN 55431

Please note that The Nerdery is NOT within walking distance of the University of St. Thomas – so like, considerably off-campus. Ask around at DrupalCamp to hitch a ride – organizers will try to facilitate transportation. The Nerdery has not yet perfected teleporting but stay tuned.
